Pediatrics offers comprehensive primary care to children. Young children need regular wellness checks to ensure their growth is on target. They also need to receive a comprehensive schedule of vaccines and care for acute and chronic problems.

The providers assess your child’s vision and hearing. They’re also looking for common childhood health problems, including obesity, autism, depression, and substance use disorder.

Pediatric care is also available for acute needs, these include: 

• Cold or flu
• Strep throat
• Pneumonia
• Stomach viruses
• Skin rashes
• Ear infections
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Fever
• Fractures
• Concussions
• Cuts and burns

If your child has a chronic condition, like asthma, the providers at Innovation Medical Group Southwest Territory offer management. When a chronic condition flares up, call to make a same-day appointment. 

Pediatric wellness checks ensure your child’s growth is on target and that they don’t have any concerning conditions that may require additional care. Weight, height/length, and head circumference measurements from your child are compared with normal development milestones and previous assessments.

You’ll schedule pediatric wellness checks frequently in your baby’s first year. Once your child enters school, these become annual wellness exams. For children with a chronic condition, wellness checks may occur more often.

During a wellness check, your provider measures your child’s height and weight. Older children undergo a blood pressure check, too. The doctor does a comprehensive physical exam, looking at your child’s eyes, ears, mouth, respiration, heart, and external genitals.

If your child is due for any immunizations, these are administered at wellness visits. Your provider reviews important homecare details, too, like proper sports gear, car seats, diet, and exercise. Also, feel free to ask any questions about your child’s health.
